Field Guide

At the Belize Natural History Archive, we have compiled a Hot Spot Birding Map for the Cayo District in Belize for the last few years. These maps display public locations in Cayo and highlight resorts where the most bird species have been sighted and recorded on eBird, an online database offering real-time bird distribution and abundance data for scientists, researchers, and nature enthusiasts.

The six major habitats consist of the following: Lowland Broadleaf Forest, Upland Broadleaf Forest, Mountain Pine Ridge Savanna, Wetland Riparian, Urban Areas/Parks, and Agricultural Disturbed Land.

Our goal is to annually compile a Hot Spot Birding Map for comparative analysis. Additionally, in the future, we aim to complete Hot Spot Birding Maps for all five districts of Belize to compare birding hotspots across the different districts.
